Linocut Greeting Cards

In this three-hour course we will introduce the fundamentals of designing and carving into soft linoleum for printing on the Vandercook Press. We will carve a small stamp block (2"x3") on soft-cut lino, and a larger design for printing on the printing press (4" x 5") to make a set of unique linocut cards for you to take home. All materials and envelopes will be provided to make a set of 6-8 cards. We will discuss the different materials and tools used in relief printmaking in general, and how to get the best results for printing at home after the class. Please bring an idea or two for your carving with you in the form of a sketch or photo. We do NOT recommend using AI to generate your imagery, as we believe strongly that this technology no only robs other artists by scraping the web for their designs (unpaid) but also robs YOU, the learner, of a fundamental part of learning a new skill and getting better at making art: creative struggle and practice!
