Mix pattern and type and see what amazing design can be generated from these two relief processes. In this day-long course you'll learn about the history of wood and metal typesetting in letterpress printing and how to design and print a successful letterpress poster. First you'll be introduced to typesetting wood type, looking at examples of poster designs from books and my personal collection for inspiration. We'll cover the basics of carving for your design into a linoblock and how to layer type and pattern to create your two-layer print. Students will carve their blocks and set their wood type to create a small edition of posters to take home. Printing the first layer from the linoleum block, followed by the second layer using wood type, students take turns on two different vintage printing presses. This course is best for those with an interest in type and typography, design, letterpress, and learning how to print posters. We will do some simple linocut carving, but it's more about the text and image working together to create an effective finished piece with a message! All materials supplied, just bring your creativity & some ideas for a short phrase or quote! Note that there will be a scheduled lunch break of half an hour to step out for refreshments. Sign up with a friend and save $20 each (checkout separately and include your friend's name in the note on your order) enter code BFF20 at checkout. Please review the cancellation policy. This course needs a minimum of 3 participants to run.
