Reduction Linocut

For intermediate and beginners to linocut or relief carving. In this 6-hour course you will develop your skills in designing, carving and printing relief prints. We will work on a two-colour linocut reduction print. Reduction prints use the same block for both layers of the print. First, you carve away just the white highlights, print your edition's first layers, and then clean the block to carve more away. The printing of the second layer goes over the first. Confused? It will make more sense in person, but the image on this workshop description is a 4 colour reduction print! We will discuss mixing colours of inks, using gradients to enhance the depth of your image, and how to edition your prints more professionally! In this course we'll use a Vandercook letterpress to print in the studio but will also cover some techniques for better printing for an at-home set up. It is essential that you come prepared with some ideas for this course, be them photos or drawings! Other than that all materials are provided and included in the course fee. This course is 6 hours, with a maximum of 6 participants. There will be a half-hour lunch break for you to grab some food in the area or take a break. Looking forward to seeing your creations!
