This course is geared toward students who have taken the "Introduction to Linocut" course or another similar course, or for self-taught folks who already have a good understanding of carving and printing. In this class we'll focus on two projects: a small "puzzle print" linocut, and a larger, reduction woodcut. We will learn how to print, mix inks for layering and plan a more complicated relief print. Homework is required! To get the most out of this class, you'll want to do some carving at home, so I would suggest you have a set of tools of your own, though you are welcome to use our class sets while you're in the studio. My recommendations are: Speedball cutters + handles (available at Above ground, De serres etc) - these are good intro tools and cost about $16 flex cut tools (available at Lee Valley) - better tools if you're getting serious, buy the set! pfeil tools (available in Canada at "Canadian woodworkers") - the best tools for linoleum, and come in a huge range of sizes/shapes - you want the palm tools for linocut unless you think you'll be making massive woodcuts for life Basic printing paper will be provided for the first project, but we will discuss other other options for you to purchase your own paper for the reduction print. Limited to 4 participants, 4 classes
