Introduction to Letterpress

Three consecutive Saturdays from 12-3:30pm

  • Started Apr. 9
  • 250 Canadian dollars
  • Location 1

In this introductory course, you'll learn how to set metal and wood type to print your own paper stationery and posters. Attention will be focused on using traditional letterpress methods, including learning how to set up (make-ready) on a cylinder press, print an edition, and clean up/care for the equipment. We will also cover incorporating hand-carved linoleum blocks into your designs, and discuss the use of polymer plates by many contemporary letterpress printers. Participants will print a personal set of notecards, and a poster with a quote & illustration. Having a small project in mind for the class is welcome. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have in this regard so we can figure out if it will be feasible within the class' time frame. *PLEASE NOTE* All participants will be required to show proof of double vaccination, and wear masks at all times in the studio. In the unfortunate instance that the event must be cancelled due to health concerns (either by the participant or instructor) or due to change in provincial covid-19 policies, a full refund will be issued and participants will be notified immediately. The course needs at least 2 participants to proceed, and the maximum will be 4 students + the instructor.

Cancellation Policy

In the event you cannot make the course, please contact us as soon as possible and we will issue you a refund and make your seat available. If it is within 48 hours of the course's first date, unfortunately your fee will be non-refundable. A minimum of 3 students for every course is required for the course to take place, if we don't reach this minimum you'll be issued a full refund.
